Recently Health Canada released an Information Bulletin aimed at all direct sellers and their independent sales contractors, where engaged in the advertising or sale of goods in the Canadian marketplace. The Information Bulletin follows new legislation in Canada called the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act (the “CCPSA”), and outlines the responsibilities these rules put on direct sellers and ISCs who manufacture, import, advertise, sell, or test consumer products in the Canadian marketplace.

Key provisions include requirements to establish a trail of product distribution, andmandatory reporting of health and safety incidents (occurring anywhere in the world). Some exceptions exist but largely for products already heavily regulated under other like-legislation, e.g., cosmetics, foods, and natural health products.
